Chariton Valley (CV) and Macon Electric Cooperative (MEC) share a great partnership with their “cooperative” program, ‘Co-ops in Action.’ The two cooperatives started the Co-ops in Action program in 2017 intending to work together to improve the lives of the people they serve. Now in their 8th year, the quarterly work projects continue.  Both MEC and CV employees come together to help a community group needing assistance with a project.

Today, Co-ops in Action completed a project for the Cash Cemetery Board in New Cambria. MEC and CV crews worked together to cut, trim, and remove overgrown and dead trees to help with the overall maintenance of the beloved family cemetery.

“MEC is proud to serve our community, and we enjoy working side by side with our neighboring cooperative!” stated Rebecca Miller, Manager of Marketing and Communications at Macon Electric Cooperative.

The Cemetery Board assisted in the work and were thankful for the work being done. Mary Ann Malloy, Cemetery Board Member and coordinator of the project, said, “We appreciate the efforts of Chariton Valley and Macon Electric. What they are doing is a great community service.  We appreciate it more than words can express!”

“Everyone at Chariton Valley understands the importance of giving back to the communities we serve,” stated Donna Bell, PR & Economic Development Manager. “Together we are improving our communities, one project at a time!”

MEC and CV select projects through a request process where community groups apply to have work completed for their organizations. A committee reviews the applications quarterly and selects projects to complete based on feasibility and impact on the community. During the volunteer workday, the organization provides the materials needed for the project, and the cooperatives provide the labor. Co-ops in Action is currently seeking requests for 2025 projects.
