The Macon County Town and Country Fair is held every July at the fairgrounds in Macon. The fair brings youth from all over the county and state for livestock exhibitions, project showcases, and tons of fun. The poultry show specifically takes place on Wednesday morning and had 26 exhibitors this year. At many county fairs, you might find that these exhibitors are able to put their chickens, ducks, or turkeys in uniform cages for the show. According to rules, each bird must be placed in their own cage, however, a lot of exhibitors don’t have enough cages to do this for each of their birds. The Macon Electric Foundation was able to step in and help solve this dilemma. The Macon County Fairboard was awarded a $1,000 grant to assist in the purchasing of cages so exhibitors no longer have to worry about providing their own cages for the show.
The poultry show superintendent, Angela Helton, said “We are so grateful to the Macon Electric Foundation and members who participate in Operation Round-Up! Being able to provide these cages for our participants takes away a potentially significant cost for some of our families. With over 300 4-Hers in the county, we work hard to provide the best possible experiences for all members.”
If you are a member of Operation Round Up, you made this as well as many other deserving projects possible! To learn more about the Macon Electric Foundation and Operation Round Up, give us a call or check out our website! 3rd Quarter Grant applications are due September 20, 2024!
