DO WE OWE YOU MONEY?
Dollar bills

January 28th, 2019 by Mary Allspach, Office Manager

Recently, MEC has updated our unclaimed capital credit listing to include all of the currently unclaimed monies and the names associated with the accounts when they became inactive. The listing includes names of former members of Macon Electric Cooperative for whom we do not currently have a forwarding address on file. The accompanying dollar amounts are patronage dividends returned in previous years that are still outstanding and owed to these former cooperative members.

As you may know, a cooperative does not earn profits in the sense that other businesses do. Instead, any margins are returned to the members through capital credit allocations and retirements.

In some cases; for instance, if a member has moved out of the cooperative service territory, the cooperative may be unable to return these funds for lack of an updated forwarding address. Each year, MEC attempts to reach out to any members who have not claimed their money by posting the information in the local newspapers, as well as on our website.

As a cooperative, we want our members and former members to have access to their money, therefore we encourage everyone to check the listing periodically to ensure that there are no funds available for yourself or a family member.

To request these funds, please contact our office at (660) 385-3157 or stop in and visit us at 31571 Business Highway 36 East in Macon to complete the Request of Unclaimed Money Form. Our business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
